Mangin, a judge of the Court of Cassation who died in 1834, had a major project for a treatise on French criminal law, which was considered in advance to be one of the landmark works on the subject. As it was not completed at the time of his death, several people took possession of his papers, publishing fragments that were annotated, updated, and supplemented. Thus, in 1837, a treatise on public and civil action appeared, followed in 1839 by a treatise on official reports. This methodical and practical work enjoyed great popularity in the 19th century. But today, it is essential to emphasize that it constitutes one of the most reliable historical foundations for numerous institutions (the status of the public prosecutor's office, prosecutions of public officials and elected representatives, etc.). First edition of Volume II.
