"This work on the population of Dôle, in which a fairly complete series of parish registers was found [supplemented by the author's use of the minutes of the deliberations of the Dôle municipality and the records of the royal notaries], comprises two parts: The first studies the town, its geography, its history, its economy, and then analyzes the population. The second includes a more in-depth study of marriage and fertility over a period of twenty years. A very interesting work, based on unpublished documents and constituting a step towards a synthetic study of the French population of the 17th and 18th centuries." [M.-M. B., Population, 1971, no. 26-1, p. 186].
