The author here offers a comparison between the League of Nations and the UN because, "immediately noting the far more advanced nature of the Charter compared to the Covenant, the League created in 1945 is certainly less individualistic than that of 1919, its organs were designed to be stronger and are indeed endowed with broader powers, its members' obligations are stricter, their discretionary powers restricted, and the entire Charter emphasizes and strives to implement much closer and more extensive collaboration." With the United Nations, "a new distribution of powers itself has emerged. States are effectively deprived of their decision-making power in important cases in favor of UN organs, and in particular the Security Council." The author then goes on to examine mechanisms still found in international relations today, such as the right of veto, and to consider specific cases, such as that of Palestine.
