The concept of customary, or lineage-based, reserve is similar to the notion of family reserve inherent in inheritance law against gratuitous acts by the individual. We have here a "remarkable" and very valuable thesis on the subject, presenting exceptional "scientific qualities" from both a "sociological and legal" point of view (Jean Imbert, Revue belge de Philologie et d'Histoire, 1954, p. 641 et seq.).
