    A lawyer and Legitimist politician, his first notable achievement was, however, the defense of Marshal Ney. Similarly, he passionately defended freedom of the press and became one of the best-known political lawyers of the 19th century. This biography, while relatively favorable to B., meticulously and fascinatingly describes the life of this man who lived through the Restoration, the Revolution, and the Empire, experiencing varying degrees of success.
