This is the only edition of this work, written by a professor and lawyer from Caen, a city he never left. This little-known work is the first, to our knowledge, to address this subject independently following the decree of the Parliament of Rouen in 1763; other authors only allude to it in their commentaries on the custom of Normandy. The author is also known for his work published in 1866, *La science du droit dans les comédies de Molière* (The Science of Law in Molière's Comedies). (Dupin is missing.)
