Contrary to what is mentioned on the title page, this is indeed the Municipal Law of 1884 and this extract from the Official Journal does indeed present all the relevant documents up to its adoption in April 1884. In particular, this law confirms the Law of March 4, 1882 restoring to the Municipal Councils the right to elect Mayors; it stipulates the ineligibility of ministers of religion for municipal functions; finally, it makes it mandatory for every municipality to acquire or rent a town hall, putting an end to the widespread practice of confusing the "Town Hall" and the Mayor's private residence.
