    Patru remains famous as the first lawyer admitted to the French Academy in 1640 and one of the founders of classical French eloquence, very close to Vaugelas, who repeatedly emphasized the quality of this author. Indeed, the pleadings and legal briefs presented are highly representative of this grand classical style. It should also be noted that in the 17th century, Patru was one of the privileged lawyers of the nobility, pleading for the Duke of Rohan, the Duke of La Trémoille, the Prince of Conti, and also in cases favorable to royal authority or prerogatives (see in particular the plea for the University of Paris). One will note an amusing map of part of the town of Clamart used to try to untangle an inheritance dispute (vol. I, p. 187).
