Co-founder of the Italian School of Criminal Law with Lombroso, he contributed to establishing the foundations of criminal anthropology, from which he later departed in favor of criminal sociology, which he promoted; in particular, he considerably broadened the range of causes of delinquency: this is the multifactorial theory. Further reading on E. Ferri's thought can be found in P. Bouzat's excellent article published in the Revue de Science criminelle (1957, p. 118 et seq.). [Researched.]
