Born in Paris in 1877, this painter, poster artist, and cartoonist initially studied law and medicine. His fame stems primarily from a series of six color lithographs depicting professors from the Paris faculties of medicine and law, printed in a limited edition; he also created posters for the Grand Guignol theater and for commercial advertising. He contributed to the Courrier français, Le Cri de Paris, and La Nouvelle Revue Parisienne. He died in Paris in 1931. These caricatures of early 20th-century lawyers are legendary and constitute the rare [or only?] caricatural iconographic documents of the period, nearly 50 years after those of Daumier. A very rare caricature, especially with such vibrant colors. Caricatured law professors: 1. Lucien GÉRARDIN 2. Ferdinand LARNAUDE 3. Charles LEFEBVRE 4. LESUEUR / LESNEUR 5. Paul ALGLAVE 6. Georges CAUWÈS 7. Étienne BARTIN 8. Maurice COLIN 9. Raoul JAY 10. Robert PIÉDELIÈVRE 11. [SAUZET] 12. Antoine PILLET 13. Auguste SOUCHON 14. Émile GARÇON 15. André WEISS 16. Eugène PETIT
