Despite its apparent publication date (1945), this volume actually reproduces the fourth edition of Goyet's classic *Précis de droit pénal spécial*, published in 1941. Updates for the post-war period are provided only by a booklet appended to the end of the work. It is therefore quite valuable as it illustrates the evolution of criminal law during the 1930s and early 1940s in this very specific area, which notably encompasses all crimes and offenses against the security of the State, against the Constitution and public peace, against persons, and against destruction and predation. It demonstrates that the hardening of criminal law is not unique to the French state regime but had already begun in earnest at the end of the Third Republic.
