in-8, full fawn calf, gilt title on burgundy paper, spine with 5 raised bands decorated with gilt fleurons and framing fillets, red edges, gilt roll on the edges, two-color red and black title, printed in 1 and 2 columns, manuscript Ex-Libris crossed out on the title page, (portrait and frontispiece missing, title page partially missing, headcaps torn off, joints split over 8.5 and 4.5 cm, edges and corners bumped with some losses), clean interior, XX-680-[7 ff.]-216 p.-[53 ff.].
A rare 1680 edition from The Hague of the original text, still considered the foundational text in the history of international relations theory. It is complete with the “Dissertatio de Mari Libero.” The notes are plentiful and of good quality. The work concludes with a substantial index of over 100 entries. P. Dupin (ref. 138) emphasizes the quality of this text, which D'Aguesseau held in high regard, unlike Puffendorf's, “which he had never been able to finish reading.” A very rare edition.
