This study focuses on lesser-known aspects of two key figures in the judiciary: Antoine Le Maistre and Guillaume du Vair. Sapey explores the exclusively religious and contemplative sides of the former parliamentarians in Le Maistre's life; in du Vair's, he highlights the lawyer and "recluse of Port-Royal." However, it is in the political sphere that the relationship between the two men is most evident, a point Sapey also attempts to demonstrate by describing their relationship to power.
