    First published at the end of the 19th century, this comprehensive dictionary of criminal law and procedure has been reprinted numerous times. While lacking any doctrinal ambition, this text nonetheless constitutes an extremely useful synthesis for understanding positive law. The main entries are extensively covered (lawyer, 30 pp.; provisional release, 25 pp.), and others are explored in detail here, even though they are rarely mentioned elsewhere (honors and precedence, bookstores, names and surnames, etc.). It served as the standard reference work for judges for over thirty years.
