This text is certainly the best known and most consulted of the "practitioners'" works, that is to say, those practical works on judicial organization, procedure, and substantive law. Its strength lies in its question-and-answer format and its remarkable clarity of exposition. Furthermore, it contains substantial sections on criminal law, with extensive passages on procedure (torture, galley service, etc.). It went through numerous editions until 1755. (Dupin, ref. 1174)
