    This work constitutes a manifesto of legal and Catholic thought, in the tradition of Joseph de Maistre. It aptly reflects the ambiguities of the reactionary analysis of the time, which tended to support the guarantees obtained in matters of civil liberties, especially those ensuring freedom of expression, while adopting extremely violent views on other points (see, for example, slavery, p. 477). JBV Coquille produced several works in this same vein, with the aim of popularizing the legal analyses of this school of thought.
