Gouillart was Dean of the Paris Law School when the Revolution began. In this study of Roman law, one can directly perceive his attachment to doctrine and teachings, neglecting positive law and jurisprudence. This work was the subject of a report presented to the Council of Ancients by Mr. Boutteville du Metz, deputy for the Somme, in the session of 19 Floréal, Year VII (Paris, National Printing Office). (Querard, vol. 11, p. 428, Dupin, ref. 659).
