    Louis Mayel Chaudon described the work in these terms: “This work, written in a style quite pure for its time, is especially valuable for its useful research and judicious criticism.” In particular, the author clashed quite sharply with Michel de L'Hospital and Loris Petris. Jean de Combes was a lawyer at the presidial court of Riom.
