In his visionary and avant-garde treatise, A. provides a profound analysis of the 1793 Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. He develops, in particular, his model of republican civil law, which, on liberal grounds, opposes the authoritarian spirit of the Civil Code. This led to his exclusion from law schools and a life of both exile and imprisonment. On this subject, see J.-L. Halpérin's *Histoire du droit privé français depuis 1804* (History of French Private Law Since 1804). Exceptional and extremely rare.
