A rare and exceptional edition of this landmark of French law. Chasseneuz was one of the first authors to attempt to clarify French customary law by reconciling it with Roman law. At the same time, he did not hesitate to compare different local customs to provide practical solutions for practitioners, leading him to undertake a didactic analysis of conflicts between customs. His commentary was so well received by his contemporaries that it went through more than 20 editions between 1517 and 1647 (published in Lyon, Paris, Frankfurt, and Geneva). This edition is complete with seven plates depicting inheritance practices in the form of a genealogical tree. Dupin, ref. 1210-6.
