This thesis, defended before a prestigious jury (Messrs. Picard, Cassin, and Niboyet), examines a legal framework highly significant in illustrating the growing xenophobia evident in interwar law: the refusal to grant foreigners the right to lease extensions, a cornerstone of the current legal framework governing leases, a right previously granted only to French citizens. However, the thesis also raises the question of the compatibility of this provision with international conventions stipulating that nationals of each contracting country be treated equally (e.g., the Franco-British Convention of 1882), and consequently, the question of the compatibility of international law with domestic law. In this respect, it is highly innovative.
