    This treatise opens with a broad general introduction to the law, along with a historical overview of its sources. In particular, Baudy-Lacantinerie offers a rather analytical, though somewhat conservative (as Gaudemet points out), description of the various 19th-century exegetical commentators and shows us how he distinguishes himself from them. Beyond this introduction, one cannot help but be struck by the practical nature of this treatise, which, like Planiol and Ripert's, will appeal to a wide range of practitioners. Finally, we offer here the latest edition—also the most frequently cited—along with its extremely rare and controversial supplement by Bonnecase. A truly exceptional set.
